Solution Background
An urban utility tunnel is a public tunnel constructed underground in cities for the centralized laying of municipal pipelines such as power, communication, radio and television, water supply, drainage, heat, and gas. China is currently in a period of rapid urbanization, where underground infrastructure development lags behind. Promoting the construction of urban utility tunnels, coordinating the planning, construction, and management of various municipal pipelines, and solving problems such as repeated road excavation, dense overhead cable networks, and frequent pipeline accidents will help ensure urban safety, improve urban functions, beautify the urban landscape, and promote intensive, efficient, and transformative urban development. In the national urban utility tunnel construction projects, more than 8,000 kilometers of main and branch underground utility tunnels are to be built in conjunction with road construction and renovation, new district development, old city renewal, river management, rail transit, and underground space development. An underground utility tunnel may be only a few kilometers long or extend for dozens of kilometers, making it impossible for inspection personnel to have real-time, complete control over its operational status. Therefore, the intelligent urban utility tunnel environmental comprehensive monitoring system has become a top priority in tunnel management.
